Founded in 2003, 5.11 Tactical emerged as a brand dedicated to providing purpose-driven gear for law enforcement, military professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts. The company’s name originates from the highest level of difficulty in rock climbing, symbolizing the challenging nature of the professions its products cater to. Initially recognized for their durable and functional pants featuring a unique strap and slash pocket design, 5.11 quickly expanded its product line to encompass a comprehensive range of tactical apparel, footwear, and accessories. Over the years, 5.11 Tactical has become synonymous with high-performance gear that does not break the bank. Todays review will focus on the5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt, an article of clothing good enough to bring to the BBQ and the VBSS.
The5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt was provided by 5.11 for this review and while I am allowed to keep the product indefinitely, this will not change my opinion on this product or any of 5.11’s current or past offerings. I have been using the5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt for a number of months now as it has accompanied me to the driving range, the shooting range and even the grill range.

Fit and Comfort:5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt – Magnum P.I. Vibes
Fit can make or break an article of clothing for me, even if it’s a lovely or expensive piece, if it doesn’t fit, I’m probably never going to wear it.The 5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt doesn’t disappoint in this department. I opted for my usual size a medium, and while I have been burned in the past by this size from 5.11 the fit was spot on for this one. It has a straight hem, which is perfect for wearing untucked, and it rides at just the right length to allow for easy carry options.
The RAPIDraw™ snap placket is a brilliant addition. At first glance, it looks like any other button-down shirt, but upon closer inspection, the snap buttons allow for quick access to a concealed firearm. I tested this feature several times, and it’s incredibly smooth and quick. For anyone who prioritizes quick access to their firearm, this shirt is definitely one to keep in mind.
Despite the tactical features, the shirt remains incredibly comfortable. The polyester fabric, combined with the Vent-Tac properties, wicks moisture away, keeping me cool even during longer days helming my grill or at the range. The fabric doesn’t cling or feel heavy, which is a relief on particularly humid days. I’ve worn this shirt while golfing, running errands, and even just lounging around, and it’s remained comfortable throughout.
Practicality and Features:5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt – Magnum P.I. Vibes
One standout practical feature of this shirt is the double-layer back yoke. This adds a bit of extra durability to the shirt, particularly in the shoulders, which is where I often find shirts start to wear out first. The patch chest pockets are another nice touch. They add a bit of extra storage space, and the pen pocket on the left pocket is handy for anyone who needs to keep a writing tool close at hand.
The shirt’s design also features a fold-down camp collar, which gives it a bit of a laid-back vibe. It’s a small detail, but it adds to the overall versatility of the shirt. Whether I’m pairing it with jeans, cargo pants, or even shorts, the collar helps the shirt transition seamlessly from one activity to another.
Performance in Different Conditions:5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt – Magnum P.I. Vibes
I’ve had the opportunity to wear this shirt in a variety of conditions, from hot, sunny days to cooler, breezier evenings. In hot weather, the shirt’s wicking properties really shine. I tend to sweat quite a bit when it’s hot, but this shirt does an excellent job of keeping me dry. The Vent-Tac fabric feels almost like it’s ventilated, allowing air to circulate and keep me cool.On cooler days, the shirt provides just enough coverage to keep me comfortable without feeling too warm.
The Concealed Carry Factor:5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt – Magnum P.I. Vibes
One of the primary reasons I was drawn to this shirt was its concealed carry features. The RAPIDraw snap placket is cleverly designed to look like a standard button-down shirt, but the snaps allow for quick, easy access to your firearm. This feature works seamlessly, and I’ve found it to be incredibly reliable. For IWB, the shirt provides ample coverage without printing, meaning the outline of the firearm doesn’t show through the fabric. The straight hem also plays a crucial role in the shirt’s effectiveness for concealed carry. It’s long enough to cover your waistband, but not so long that it looks out of place if worn untucked. This is particularly important for maintaining a low profile when carrying concealed.
Final Thoughts:5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt – Magnum P.I. Vibes
After wearing the 5.11 Adventure Print Short Sleeve Shirt for several months, I can confidently say it’s a very versatile shirt. It strikes a perfect balance between style and functionality, making it suitable for a wide range of activities. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, someone who carries concealed, or just someone who loves to wear Hawaiian shirts, it’s a great option. I like to think that if we transported a few of these back to the 80’s, Thomas Magnum would be sporting them while driving that Ferrari along a coastal road in Hawaii.
