Proxy conflicts are threatening global stability. Certain states are increasingly using non-state groups to advance agendas while dodging responsibility. These covert relationships let sponsor states avoid consequences, as the proxies provide plausible deniability. This grey zone between war and peace hamstrings traditional diplomacy. We urgently need new deterrents before this dangerous trend spreads further. Economic sanctions could help by raising costs on sponsor states. But sanctions alone may prove insufficient. The international community should also prioritize better intelligence sharing and attribution capabilities to expose state-proxy ties. Norms are eroding, and cooperative efforts are essential to restore accountability. This will require patience and persistence when progress seems elusive. While solutions won't come quick or easy, the risks of inaction are dire. Without renewed commitments to transparency and state responsibility, unrest and violence will continue spreading across the globe.#Disinformation #Propaganda #FakeNews #ElectionInterference #DomesticTerrorism #NationalSecurity #CriticalThinking #MediaLiteracy #PlatformGovernance #Transparency #FreeSpeech #Democracy #ElectionSecurity #Extremism #SocialMedia #Regulation #FactChecking #Misinformation #Radicalization #SocialCohesion #Cyberwarfare #Censorship #FreedomOfSpeech #Counterterrorism #TechnologyEthics #ForeignInfluence #Polarization #WorldNews #BreakingNews #InternationalHeadlines #GlobalNews#CurrentEvents#TopStories #DailyNews #NewsUpdate #NewsAlert #NewsFeed #NewsNow #NewsFlash#NewsOfTheDay#NewsSummary #NewsDigest United Nations International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC U.S. Department of State 10 Downing Street Foreign and Commonwealth Office European Commission

Examining Harris’ Conditional Support for IsraelThe moderator’s framing of the question is revealing. The use of “Israel has a right to defend itself” is technically accurate, but it is marred by the subsequent "but." This conditional language implies that Israel’s fundamental right to self-defense is in question, overshadowed by concerns over “international humanitarian law” and “protecting innocent civilians.”The Right to Self-Defense: The phrase "Israel has a right to defend itself" should be considered an absolute, not a debatable point. Just as every individual has an inalienable right to self-defense, so does Israel. This right should not require justification or caveats. The "But" Clause: The addition of "but" introduces a conditional element that undermines the unequivocal support Israel needs. By emphasizing the need to respect international humanitarian law and suggesting that Israel must do “more” to protect civilians, the question implicitly critiques Israel's current actions, despite the fact that Israel is known for its efforts to minimize civilian casualties compared to other militaries.#IsraelRightToDefend, #KamalaHarrisHamas, #USPolicyIsrael, #TrumpVsHarris, #MiddleEastConflict, #HarrisConditionalSupport, #UnwaveringSupportForIsrael, #HamasTerrorism, #TrumpOnIran, #CeasefireDebate, #IsraelSelfDefense, #USForeignPolicy#IsraeliDefense, #HarrisVsTrump, #RegionalStability, #CounterTerrorism, #IranSanctions, #GlobalTradeImpact, #MiddleEastStability, #IsraelResilience

Tune in for a very timely discussion on The Washington Outsider #Report on Coalition Radio with a very insightful analyst from #Greece, Alexandros Itimoudis, who will share a presentation and shed light on some of the lesser discussed impacts of the #Houthi and #Iran attacks in the Red Sea, including:* How these attacks are disrupting the European/Indian/Middle East Corridor and why #France is concerned about its #supplychains* Why Macron has suddenly become hawkish on #Russia#Why #Russia is gaining in transportation and #logistics opportunities as #maritimeroutes are challenges* Historical parallels which create fascinating geographical advantages for some countries and also a look at how some forgotten geopolitical theories are applicable to real life scenarios.* Why #Greece's long-standing and unique relationship to the #MiddleEast and #Mediterranean could provide it with unique diplomatic opportunities - and why those opportunities are not being exploited.* Why it is to #RUssia's advantage to continue supporting #Iran and various #militias - and how it can increase its political advantage in the #MiddleEast. * Why #EUrope lacks a #secuity strategy to protect its investments and how that reflects on the lack of #EU coordination on a #maritimesecurity plan with the United States-led #defense coalition.* How the fight over resources in #Africa and growing #counterterrorism concerns are contributing to the divergent interests and confused #foreignpolicy in the region.... and much more.#terrorism #counterterrorism #extremism #counterextremism #maritimesecurity #middleeast #arabworld #Yemen #Houthis #thegulf #EU #EuropeanUnion #Europe #NATO #Cyprus #eastmed #mediterranean #Somalia #Ethiopia #hornofafrica #eastafrica #sanctions #military #security #defense #Ukraine #foreignpolicy #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics #strategy #energy #energysecurity #India #energycrisis #oilandgas #oilandgasindustry

I am cited along with Mona Yacoubian from the US Institute of Peace, in Amina Zaki Zaky's article in جريدة الدستور -جريدة الدستور - ElDostor News News, providing analysis of #Iran's options for retaliating against #Israel over the assassination of #Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, #Israel's likely reaction, measures the US is taking to contain the crisis, the likely repercussions on the region, such as the impact of economic warfare, what measures US could have taken to put prevent #Iran from escalating throughout history, and why US perceives #Iran as the agent of chaos and destruction in the region. I am openly critical of the US consistently weak and limited #foreignpolicy against #Iran which resulted in the takeover of Arab countries and persistent destabilization of the #MiddleEast, and call for rolling back its influence on all fronts, including the spread of #extremism and hateful ideologies and #Informationwarfare, rather than continuing with the failed #containment #strategy. https://lnkd.in/e2hJTXHV#middleeast #arabworld #thegulf #Yemen #Houthis #Lebanon #Hizbullah #Syria #Iraq #Levant #Hamas #Gaza #terrorism #counterterrorism #extremism #counterextremism #informationwarfare #Propaganda #disinformation #Intelligence #counterintelligence #ARAMCO #economy #oilandgas #oilangasindustry #energy #energysecurity #energycrisis #Maritimesecurity #military #security #defense #GCC #KSA #SaudiArabia #UAE #UnitedArabEmirtes #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics

For the first episode of 2024, The Washington Outsider #Report is joined by Robert Evan Ellis to discuss #China's growing economic entrenchment and #military role in Latin America, the resulting challenges to US national security interests, and the reasons for the surprisingly passive and conflicted US policy. We discuss the natural advantages #China has in that sphere and the limitations on US capabilities, but we also talk about what can and needs to be done before #China weaponizes its current network over the #telecommunications center, #intelligence operations, and dual use infrastructure in favor of offensive geopolitical ambitions. We also talk about #China's individual relations with various countries such as #Venezuela and how that affects the political sphere and the actions of the #Maduro regime and other hostile countries.#LatinAmerica #MonroeDoctrine #WesternHemisphere #Guatemala #ElSalvador #Argentina #Brazil #Venezuela #Ecuador #Chile #Peru #Cuba #Bolivia #Nicaragua #Uruguay #terrorism #counterterrosim #economy #military #security #defense #maritimesecurity #intelligence #counterintelligence #espionage #Guyana #oilandgas #oilandgasindustry #investments #foreignpolicy #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics

Tune in Tuesday to The Washington Outsider #Report on Coalition Radio for a special episode with @Alberto De La Cruz, the Managing Editor of the @Babalu Blog, where we will be taking a much closer look at the strange case of the former US ambassador Manuel Rocha, who was caught - under equally bizarre circumstances - spying for #Cuba; we will also look at the context of #Cuba's #intelligence practices and what that means for US interests and #security. Hear all about other cases of Cuban recruits snooping on US government - and what makes them different from the Soviet spies. Examine whether #Cuba had a motive to leak Rocha's identity to the US. Learn about Havana's #espionage practices and what makes them successfully. What does Rocha's case have in common with other recent spy cases in the US? What drives the Castro regime and its circles... and what role are they playing in Latin America? We will also talk about whether #Cuba is merely grasping for straws to stay relevant - or once again becoming an important global satellite to more powerful regimes. Why is the US losing not only the #Informationwarfare but the intelligence wars - and to much smaller and poorer countries?#intelligence #counterintelligence #spies #Nicaragua #Bolivia #LatinAmerica #MonroeDoctrine #Russia #China #Iran #HavanaSyndrome #military #security #defense #Venezuela #Spain #Ukraine #mercenaries #terrorism #counterterrorism #extremism #counterextremism #corruption #sanctions #Communism #Marxism #Humanrights #humanrightsviolations #humanitariancrisis #humanitarianaid #humanitarianassistance #NorthKorea #foreingpolicy #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics

In times of conflict, it is essential to engage in thoughtful dialogue and consider the complexities of the situation. The recent events between Hamas and Israel have sparked intense debate worldwide. While acknowledging the tragic loss of life on both sides, we must also critically examine the actions taken.Hamas, in a shocking assault, launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood inside Israel, resulting in the loss of many lives and taking hostages1. On the other hand,Israelhas faced criticism for its military actions, including civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. As professionals, we can contribute to the discourse by advocating for peace, empathy, and accountability. Let us encourage open conversations that transcend borders and ideologies. Together, we must work towards a world where conflict resolution prioritizes humanity and compassion.#Peace #ConflictResolution #HumanitarianEfforts #Disinformation #Propaganda #FakeNews #ElectionInterference #DomesticTerrorism #NationalSecurity #CriticalThinking #MediaLiteracy #PlatformGovernance #Transparency #FreeSpeech #Democracy #ElectionSecurity #Extremism #SocialMedia #Regulation #FactChecking #Misinformation #Radicalization #SocialCohesion #Cyberwarfare #Censorship #FreedomOfSpeech #Counterterrorism #TechnologyEthics #ForeignInfluence #Polarization#WorldNews #BreakingNews #InternationalHeadlines #GlobalNews #CurrentEvents#TopStories #DailyNews #NewsUpdate #NewsAlert #NewsFeed #NewsNow #NewsFlash #NewsOfTheDay #NewsSummary #NewsDigest United Nations U.S. Department of State International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC Dr. Zaheer Ahmad MBE Dr Desziree Richardson UK Parliament 10 Downing Street The White House European Commission

I am quoted in London-based #Oman #media #Muwatin about the public reconciliation efforts between #Bahrain and #Qatar, years after the conclusion of the #AlUla agreement, normalizing relations between Doha, #KSA, #UAE, and #Egypt. Among other analysts and regional voices, I discuss the political underpinnings of the original agreement, the factors pushing #Bahrain to agree to reconciliation, and why these formal diplomatic steps are unlikely to fully resolve underlying issues. The article also discusses the renewed prospects for the building of a "Bridge of Love" connecting #Bahrain to #Qatar, which would be the longest bridge in the world, amidst a history of delays and political challenges.https://lnkd.in/eU-aqWHD#middleeast #arabworld #thegulf #GCC #SaudiArabia #Yemen #Houthis #maritimesecurity #military #security #defense #terrorism #counterterrorism #extremism #counterextremism #northafrica #africa #informationwarfare #disinformation #propaganda #economy #foreignpolicy #foreignaffairs #diplomacy #geopolitics
